Reality Vs Determination
Working full time, and starting a business...
The decision to start my own business didn’t come lightly, I had dreamt of having my own online store for many years however lacked the confidence to take the plunge until I met my now-husband. He wholeheartedly supported my vision and told me what have you got to lose? Having worked in retail for ten years previously I had the contacts and experience needed to make a start, don’t get me wrong I now know having your own business is not for the faint-hearted!
It’s not at all glamorous, I do work full time as well as running Little Oeuf there is only me behind the scenes and I cover marketing, buying and customer relations with my husband providing endless support & bless him he’s great at pop up events.
The look on people’s faces when I told them I had decided to launch a website showcasing children’s clothing and lifestyle products really was something! I wish I’d captured their reactions. Haha looking back it may be because I started out by telling people that I was running the business within 'my free time'...I now know what a luxury free time was back then in 2016!. The free time that comes with already working 8 hours a day at my day job Monday to Friday & having the evenings and weekends to myself and Hubby to enjoy time together!
So here I am telling you about why I started my own business and the highs and lows of taking that big leap. (I love having Little Oeuf & seeing our products on peoples Instagram / Facebook pages)
The idea of ‘Little Oeuf' came from my love of fashion. I honestly love nothing more than helping people and developing their understanding of the benefits of buying from us as all our items are either made by Mamas; organic or ethically sourced. At Little Oeuf you know that what you’re buying is thoughtfully and lovingly curated, responsibly sourced and engaging Mums to fuel their passion for making beautiful handmade garments for your children.
It’s not all about the clothing though - creating an exciting and engaging environment will also invite children to learn. So, we’re building our business with lifestyle products too.
It’s been an incredible journey so far. Some of the not-so-high moments include spending hours trying to work out how to edit our website and the fine details, every day we're learning and by no means are we IT whizzes! Another would be that never-ending guilt of; ''am I spending enough time with my Family vs working?'' My own advice for this is; “never feel guilty for working hard and trying to follow your dream to provide the best you can for your family. As long as you spend the time you can with them wisely and you have quality time together, you should never feel guilty.” Taking your own advice isn’t always easy, is it hey?
But the highs far outweigh the lows. I’m following my dream and passion and creating a small business around my families while helping others. We’ve learnt so much on our journey so far. One huge lesson we now truly understand is how important it is to support, promote and buy from small businesses. We really do appreciate every order we get and we want you to love what you receive. We put so much love and effort into beautifully hand-wrapping every one of your parcels in tissue paper and raffia ribbon before we send it to you - a small token of our appreciation to you for shopping small is to receive happy mail from Little Oeuf. So thank you for reading and thank you for continuing to support us.
We’d love to hear from you. Why not tell us why you shop small or if you’re another small business we’d equally like to hear your story and what you’ve faced along the way. Feel free to ask us any questions about our products or if there’s something you’re specifically looking for we’ll do our best to help you out or point you in the direction of where to find it.
